COURSE OVERVIEW
Offered by Groundwork Trauma Education, this four hour workshop teaches clinicians how to integrate EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, and somatic therapy in a way that follows the client’s nervous system with clarity and attunement. Rather than relying on protocols or rigid sequencing, this training focuses on moment by moment clinical decision making, helping therapists understand how to transition between modalities based on activation, dissociation, pacing, and the client’s internal cues.
Participants will learn how trauma shows up in the nervous system, how to track shifts in regulation, and how to choose interventions that align with what the client’s system is ready for, rather than pushing toward a predetermined plan. Through clear teaching, case examples, and a grounded clinical framework, this training supports therapists in offering flexible, attuned trauma work that honors both depth and safety.
WHAT YOU WIL LEARN
• How to recognize nervous system cues that guide trauma processing in real time
• The clinical functions of EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, and somatic approaches within a trauma session
• How to know when to shift modalities and how to transition without overwhelming the client
• Working with protectors, parts, somatic activation, and subcortical material
• Understanding the role of pacing, titration, and containment
• Responding to dissociation, shutdown, or escalating activation
• How to structure sessions around the client’s capacity rather than the therapist’s agenda
• Ethical considerations when integrating multiple modalities with trauma survivors
WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?
This workshop is designed for:
• Therapists trained in at least one trauma modality who want to integrate approaches safely and effectively
• Clinicians who want a deeper understanding of nervous system guided trauma work
• Practitioners who feel uncertain about when to shift modalities or how to work moment by moment
• Therapists who seek a more attuned, flexible, and grounded approach to trauma therapy
This is an educational workshop. It is not a certification in EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, or somatic therapy. It is intended to support clinicians in developing clinical judgment and attunement within trauma focused work.
- Learning Objectives
- By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe how trauma presents in the nervous system and how to track activation in session.
- Explain the clinical role and function of EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, and somatic interventions in trauma processing.
- Identify at least three indicators that signal when to shift modalities during a trauma session.
- Apply pacing and titration strategies that support client regulation, containment, and safety.
- Outline ethical considerations related to integrating multiple trauma modalities in outpatient practice.
